Skittles...

The boyfriend's daughter sorted and organised the colours of the rainbow today. Yep, delicious Skittles. She took these photos using the macro funtion and they all came out really well... they are totally blog-worthy! Perhaps a budding photogropher? :)

A Very Merry Baby Shower...

Love u Lill!

Your going to be an incredible mummy xX

Poppy & Levi like...

climbing trees on sunny Spring afternoons.
I can expose these two sweet tree climbing siblings now that they have been given to my very pregnant friend. They are a mixture of Black Apple and Olive & Archie dolls. Giving them away was a teensie bit difficult.... it made it easier knowing they are going to an excellent home with loving soon-to-be parents.

Inspiration: Cath Kidston...

I discovered Cath's online catalogue today (all 100 delightfully bright and cheery pages of it!!!). Just viewing it made me very happy. I'm not usually into florals, or pinks for that matter, but her fabric combinations have temporarily converted me.
xXx
ps: I reeeallly want that navy spotted dress on the right.

Alice in Wonderland animated movie!!!

My mind is all things Alice, tea parties and singing pansies in preparation for Saturday's baby shower extravaganza, so imagine my utter excitement when I stumbled upon the 2010 movie trailer! First Coraline and now another Tim Burton movie, oh happy happy joy...

(sorry no embedded youtube video.. wouldn't allow it for some reason?)

Picture frame DIY transformation...

Inspired by this post I had fun transforming a rather boring wooden picture frame (have lost the 'before' photo sorry) into this message board using:

* 1 thrifted picture frame
* glossy firey red spray paint
* my Oma's lovely vintage bird fabric

I'm happy with the glossy red colour burst in our neutral hallway and like that the fabric (which is attached to the wooden backing with quilters spray adhesive) can be whipped off and changed whenever I get bored with it :D

A good book...

Last year while travelling around Laos with the boy and craving a good read (which for me aside from craft blogs is sadly hard to come by) I came across Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I judged a book by its cover 100% - not normally advised. But I loved it! The plot and review? Well I am a self confessed terrible book and movie critique so I won't even try. But... the critique from Reading Matters blog describes it well... so check that out instead of reading my garbled jargon! :)

Dr. Seuss is the man...

I delight in reading Dr. Seuss to my class as often as possible. I love the fox, Daisey head Maisey, Bim, Ben, the cat, and especially the goldfish. I stumbled upon this Green Eggs and Ham softie by My Paper Crane. She even sews and sells green softie pickles in jars, strawberries in punnets, bread in loaves, bananas in skins, eggs by the dozen etc etc.

On a personally crafty note, I am happy to be softie making again - I was bit disracted there for a good few months or 6 with crochet. Can't give too much away, but can say 'they' are for the newborn baby of an amazing, kind, sweet and fun friend xXx I'm hosting her very merry Alice in Wonderland themed baby shower this coming weekend. Very exciting! But so much to do so little time... eeeek.

A craft fair? Yes please!

The Craft & Quilt Fair is coming to Adelaide from Nov 5-8. Thanks to my lovely friend Alissa of Craftalicious Caper for alerting and inviting me to this!
If anyone else if keen to catch up for a coffee or lunch while there let us know :)

Junk-apiller?

I seem to be surprising my boy with new thrifted crochet and knitted blankets every time he comes home. He has started calling me 'Junk-zilla' and 'Junk-apiller'... and even put forth a totally unacceptable blog name change of 'Junk and Blankets'. He just doesn't get it! :)

So here's my newest find $6.99 from Salvos @ Hampstead Gdns. I love love love it to pieces! Makes being in our lounge room such a blissfully happy experience (if not slightly psychadelic hehe).

Elephant love...

This sweet little trunked one simply needed to come home with me. Aww.

Patchwork cushion problems...

I have been peering at some lovely fresh vintage/new fabric patchwork on the web here, here and here.

I am new to the patchwork world, and I am struggling to select, size and organise nice colour combinations. 2 hours passed and all I could come up with were these - a red, blue, green and yellow collection of fabrics.... when i look at them now all i can see now is a ridiculous rainbow smoosh kaleidoscope of colour...
Maybe i just need to sleep on it. Rest my eyes hehe. Any advice? x

Little Bird: Port Elliot

I have been hearing talk on the craft-vine about a shop in Port Elliot called Little Bird. Well I finally got there today!
My, my, my... was I in for a treat. The shop was full of delightful surprises - Sprout, Aunty Cookie and Umbrella Print fabrics, copious amounts of brooches, felt and fabric covered hair clips, incredible quilts by Aunty Cookie, and a lovely saleslady to boot (paramount). Lets just say I didn't leave empty handed... hehe

I have been wishing for the red print crochet/knitting fabric for aaaaaages. Happy days!

Little Bird... you are now my absolute #1 shop in South Australia.

Fleurieu peninsula antics...

I am feeling a tad privileged to have a boyfriend who works as a park ranger. Not only do I get to see buckets full of spectacular natural environments, but I also get to check out all (and I mean all) the country op-shops! I took an epic 7 hours to get back to Adelaide from Victor (normally 1.5hrs) with charity shops to blame ... oh and some devonshire tea cafes too, shhhh :P

Does anyone else get goosebumps just before entering through the doorway of a thrift store? I love the thrill of not knowing what I'm going to find. This post confirms my addiction and proposes that the act of thrifting is not unlike a good quality drug.

Perhaps some patch work cushion covers with the above fabrics?

I feel an obsession for old malamine crockery building.
...*sigh of contentment* :)

Freezer Paper Capers...

As if I haven't got too many crafts on my plate already to pass (waste) time with - why not add another one. We made some freezer paper stencils at Brown Owls last night. Great fun. I actually wore this creation today proudly. Love some crafty success! x

Take a look at other lovely Brown Owl freezer paper creations here.

Happy Fathers Day Dad!

Spelling theme: Royal Adelaide Show

Kids help me every week by drawing the pictures to aid their comprehension of their spelling words on the whiteboard. Imagine the hysterics when one student drew a farting cow for the word 'smells' (even better -the satisfied look on the cows face). Awesome!

:)

Ive loved this video for months now and its time that it put more smiles on more faces around this wonderful world of ours. It sometimes makes me shed a happy tear, and ALWAYS makes me want to spontaneously dance with a large group in Rundle Mall. Enjoy!
